March for the Alternative: 26 March 2011

The government is using 'the deficit' as a pretext to drive through the wholesale dismantling of public services in the UK, benefits are being cut, council workers laid off, privatisation introduced into the NHS. The cuts will adversely affect communities like Hackney, where the Council is being told to make £44 cuts in one year. Housing, mental health, the NHS, education are all facing attacks, but in the City of London, big city bonuses are back in fashion; we are not 'all in this together'.

The TUC is organising a national march against these cuts on 26 March 2011. 

There is an alternative, the banks can wait for their money, as the economy pulls out of recession the tax income to the government will increase. There is no need to make these cuts, they are ideologically driven by a government that does not believe we deserve decent homes and service or that our children are entitled to a decent education.

Community groups in Hackney are urging their members and supporters to attend the demonstration.
